PROFECTION AS PARTICIPATION

Annual profection is a Hellenistic timekeeping technique that advances the profected Ascendant by one house for each year of life. Each birthday activates a house, the sign occupying that house, and the planet that rules that sign as the year’s time lord.

We apply this old technology in a new way: as a method for participating in Deep Time through creative practice. The profection is being used to enter into relationship with its activated conditions and allow those conditions to shape study, making, fieldwork, and attention.

At age forty, the profected Ascendant returns to the fifth house. In this chart the fifth house is Libra, making Venus the time lord. Natal Venus is in Cancer in the second house, with Jupiter in Pisces as final dispositor.

The fifth house foregrounds creative practice, pleasure, play, generativity, and making. Libra contributes an Air logic of relation, exchange, circulation, proportion, and mediation. Venus in Cancer brings water, home, attachment, memory, nourishment, value, and material resources into that relational field. Jupiter in Pisces extends the field toward permeability, scale, and larger watery systems.

Estuary is the form that emerged through participation with these conditions.
